Established in 2016, Tehran Urban Innovation Center [TUIC] is a design-by-research, research-by-design practice, dedicated to developing ideas for smart urban solutions for contemporary Iranian cities.
TUIC aims at tackling pressing urban issues through deployment of novel technologies with the ultimate goal of making existing Iranian cities smarter, more resilient, and as sustainable as possible. This is achieved with a trans-disciplinary approach, capitalizing on the potential of mode-2 knowledge production.
Conceptualizing the city as an interaction field of juxtaposing networks, the scope of the center covers ideation, design development, prototypical implementation, urban demo, post-implementation user-study, and preparation of viable technology transfer and business model, in order to provide pitch-able comprehensive solution packages that are ready for full-fledged commercialization through appropriate public-private partnerships.
In developing such concepts, the goal is to provide a feasible framework for urban revitalization without gentrification, in close collaboration with all public and private players that are shaping the near future of Iranian Cities.
The center is open to international collaborations and is eager to be a part of the global knowledge exchange network of urban innovation and other research & development entities that are operating under Smart Cities and Smart Citizens Initiatives all around the world.
