Mahdi Najafi is a researcher, currently with a focus on urban innovation and systems thinking. Graduated in architecture from Iran University of Science and Technology (IUST), he moved to Barcelona to pursue his further studies at the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IAAC). He got a Master degree in Advanced Interaction Design, and a Postgraduate Diploma in 1:1 scale robotic fabrication (OTF), during which he succeded to design and fabricate the 1st real scale robotic-fabricated structure in Spain (Fusta Robotica) as well as the 1st smart aquaponic greenhouse (Aquaponic Pavilion), with a group of postgraduate researchers. After working as an intern in Appareil studio for architecture in Barcelona, he got back to Iran to follow his research and practice.
Mahdi is now the head of research at Tehran Urban Innovation Center (TUIC).
